What is Hospice?
Hospice services provide compassionate care for anyone who has been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. Hospice enables patients to continue an alert, pain-free life while managing other symptoms so that their last days may be spent with dignity, surrounded by their loved ones. Hospice services can be offered at home, in hospitals, or in skilled nursing, assisted living or retirement facilities.
When is Hospice Appropriate?
Hospice is appropriate when a person will no longer benefit from curative treatment and life expectancy is approximately six months or less. The decision to begin Hospice services will be determined by the patient, family members, primary care physician and the Hospice Medical Director.
Who pays for Hospice?
Hospice services are covered 100% by Medicare and Medicaid. Many insurance providers also have a Hospice benefit with their plan. We are happy to assist you in determining your coverage.
